Waiting for the Fire Event. The big tower thing in the center of the photo was later set on fire.
Lighting up the lanterns. We had one of the big eyeball lanterns, which were supposed to signify looking forward into the future. That's the edge of my sister's face on the right side of the picture, with the wreath of roses in her hair. It's also her hands lighting the candle.
This picture was taken during the Fire Event on the last day. I was surprised when it worked out, but the place was so bright because of the fire spray that I took a picture even though I didn't think it would work. The prayer flags, on which we wrote wishes for the new year, were tied onto these paper and bamboo structures, which were then set alight and sent sparks everywhere (I was terrified). There were lots of them, but you can only see one in the photo.
During the Fire Event. People with torches and funny burning things (the ones that look like giant mosquito coils) ran around and danced.
