Went to Hyperdome; found no decent paper for doing the table, priced DVD players. I thinkt he one we were thinking of getting was about $450.
Malcolm in the Middle: "Rollerskates". Malcolm's dad teaches him how to skate.
Went to library, got a bunch of Beatles books off hold.
Went to the Bus Depot to have showers, then looked around Lismore shopping centre. I got the white album from k-mart there. We then drove to Nimbin, which was freaky. I always thought all the rumours about the place were exagerated, but we weren't out of the bus for five minutes before someone walked up and offered us drugs. I had about five offers and we were there about half an hour. We left then, and drove home.
Moved CD player down onto desk so I can actually use it.
the X-Files: "Medusa". This weird train tunnel virus. I'm going to feel creepy getting onto trains in tunnels now. Bloody hell.
Left Rummery Creek at 11:30, got stuck halfway up a hill a little later, and had to wait 5 hours for a tow truck to come and pull us up. Got to Lismore where we pulled over in a park. Went for a walk around a park, saw a church straight out of AOE2.
the Simpsons: "Pokey Mom". Marge frees a artistic prisoner.
Went through Mullumbimby - boring - and drove out to Rummery Park camping ground.
Wandered around Byron, got a Beatles poster from Rod's Records for $11.95. Walked 5km to the lighthouse, leaving at 2:30 and returning at 5:00.
the Simpsons: repeat of the episode where Lisa becomes a vegetarian. Paul McCartney was in it.
Malcolm in the Middle: "Cheerleader". Reese bocomes a cheerleader to impress a girl.
Left for Byron Bay today. Got there in the afternoon, found a caravan park right on the each. Read the papers, found an article about Paul McCartney and his landmine campaign.
Played AOE2, beat fourth Joan of Arc campaign.
Discovered we may be leaving for Byron Bay tomorrow.
Watched A Hard Day's Night again. It was a lot better this time round because I knew which one was which this time. I had to keep telling Erica though ("That one's Paul. That one's John. That one's George. That one's Ringo." "So which one was that one?" "I just told you!) We couldn't stop giggling at the bit where Ringo puts his jacket over the puddles and the lady falls down the hole. I have to get a copy of this on DVD. Although I don't have a DVD player, I shall get one if it means I can watch this over and over again.
Played AOE all day today.
Erica got more RAM put into the computer so now we can play the new game. It's got better graphics than the first.
the X-Files: "the Gift". Mulder was in it, but it was like a past episode. This guy healed people, and Mulder had apprently refused to be healed by it cause he wouldn't add to it's pain.
Went into Beenleigh to go to the library. Dad dropped me off there. I discovered the hardcover teenage section. Amazing that I'd never really looked before. So I pulled the first books off the shelf - literally, I took the first five or so books from the A section - and by a happy coincidence discovered that two of the books were by Lloyd Alexander. I've read one of them already and it was really good. I also put holds on lots of Beatles books. I'm going to feel silly picking them up, since the bloody librarian knows my name I feel silly borrowing books.
So after the library I walked to the Marketplace by way of Coles to get Mum's Better Homes and Gardens magazine, and since I was in the newsagent I got a copy of Rolling Stone because it had the Beatles on the cover.
Then I walked over to the marketplace, got Please Please Me cause it was the cheapest I could find. I wanted the white album or past masters but since I'd gotten Rolling Stone I couldn't afford them. Then I went into Retravision and asked them about DVD players, and she said it was illegal to sell multizone ones, but perhaps one could be modified, she didn't really know. So that was annoying. Then I went up to Video Ezy, where I discovered that they had Hard Day's Night on the shelf, so I went to rent it. I didn't have a card, but Dad's name was on file so it was okay. And when the hell did a weekly video go up from $2 to $3.30? I suppose I haven't paid for a video myself or a while, cause Mum always goes to the video store now, but I was startled by that anyway. Then I walked to the station and got my ticket with exactly 20c to spare. So now I've got absolutely no money again. On the plus side I've got four beatles cd's, although this one's not as good as far as I think yet.
Realised that the line in "Her Majesty" must be either a british, or maybe australian band, because I think it's the accent that reminds me. This is driving me bloody mad. I hate not being able figure out what I'm thinking of. I remember when "Kate" was on Dawson's Creek, adn Erica figured out what it was before me. I took ages to get it. I'd try to play it in my head, but couldn't get past the little snippet played on the ad. In fact I didn't get it till the actual show was on. It bothered me a lot though.
went on the net and read afw, discovered that the new njo book is available in pulp fiction. damn it damn it danm it. I spent all my bloody money this morning, didn't I? so now I can't afford it. I'm getting erica to get it for me anyway, and I'll pay her back in two weeks when my government endowment comes through. This means I'll have basically no money for a month. Screw that. I'm so pissed off.
Erica got AOE II, we installed it and then it told us we needed 32 mb of ram, the computer has only 24. I always meant to go get more, but never got round to it. This is kind of good cause it means Erica's got to pay for it instead of me.
Got a java search for my lyrics section, so I now have to type up all of the lyrics. Bleh. On the plus side, I'll be able to find out what it is that line in "Her Majesty" reminds me of.
The Awful Truth: repeat of episode where Mike creates the country of Turdonia for Ted Turner. Amusing quote: "What's a good first line for a constitution? ... It was a dark and stormy night...". Also, the stats: 25% of Americans believe that not all serial killers are bad - "it just takes one or two to give the rest a bad name".
Downloaded the beatles midi's, so I'll mess with them and try to get something playable for my violin out of it. I posted to a.f.w. today, sick of lurking. Got new webpage address (http://zap.to/strawberryfields/). Found out some info on DVD players, discovered about regions. How fucking terrible. Now I'll have to go into a store and ask if it's possible to get one with all of the regions or whatever. A DVD player's pretty pointless to me if I can't play dvd's ordered from the 'net. Also got the quotes from hard day's night from the imdb, and couldn't stop giggling. Absolutely *must must must* get my hands on a copy of this. Examples:
--
Man on train: Don't take that tone with me young man. I fought the war for your sort.
Ringo: I bet you're sorry you won.
--
Reporter: How did you find America?
John: Turned left at Greenland.
--
Reporter: What would you call that hairstyle you're wearing?
George: Arthur.
--
Man On Train: I shall call the guard.
Paul: Ah, but what? They don't take kindly to insults you know.
--
Emma and Amy came over. We rambled about being bored for about an hour, then we used our Woodford-learned bookbinding skills to make books. I made a nice dark blue one, now I'll have to think of something to use it for.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Funeral". Not so good really. Jordan singing along to the theme song just weirded me out. It's They Might Be Giants. My seven year old brother singing TMBG... odd. Hal had the coolest record player I have ever seen: a dome thing on a pole. Very iteresting.
Redesigned the front page, and messed with the page in general. Added the URL to the bottom of all the pages.
Noticed it's 12:09. This should technically go on Tuesday then. I'm going to bed.
Easter sunday: i was awake fairly early, but jordan came in and bugged me to get off the computer because mum and dad said he couldn't look for his eggs until erica and i were there. So i went out, and I had to look for easter eggs in the backyard.
Watched "the Dish". Bloody brilliant. "That was a wonderful moment, eh?... This isn't. This is a shithouse moment." - paraphrased. Lots of quintessential Australian humour, which I like in some circumstances.
started new weaving, did an ankh design.
the Simpsons: this was a repeat of part two of the "who killed Mr. Burns" episodes (part one was on last night). I liked it. I hadn't seen it before, but I did know it was Maggie anyway.
Tonight was that barbecue thingy mum and dad had. house was bloody noisy.
Job interview at the Logan library at 8:30 am. Got there at about 8:15, went in and waited a while, did the tests, and got interviewed by a panel of three people. I think it went fairly well. After the interview, I went out and walked down to the Woodridge shopping area. I went into K-mart and bought Abbey Road for $23, because that was the one I chose fairly randomly from the cd's there. Then I went out and found a really nice browny rainbowy jumper in that store on the corner inside the mall. That was $35. Then I walked around to the lifeline stores on the other side, got a blue tie-dyed skirt from some cheap store for $10, and also a green scarf for $1.50 from the salvation army store. Then I walked back to the station. On the way there I found a record store called Hurricane Music, which has become my new favourite record store. I've always seen it from the train, but Woodridge is the sort of area where people listen to the popular music, or rap, so I'd assumed that's what it sold, I guess. Well, it was a brilliant little store, and I got Magical Mystery Tour for $20. All the cd's there, new and 2ndhand, were less than $20. Good for me, while I try to fill in my Beatles back catalogue. So when I took it up to the counter, the guy laughed at me and said "aren't you too young for the beatles?" and I was like, "uh... no". How would one respond to that question, I don't know. Patronising man.
Watched Dawson's Creek, killed myself laughing at something that Joey said. Forget it at the moment, but she must have swallowed several dictionaries to get that phrase. In passing, what happened to the annoying blond girl? The one who cheated on the tests? Can't remember her name for the life of me, if indeed I ever knew it. Missed the start of the season, so I lost the plot (that's why I'm watching DC probably). Must... not... watch... anymore... can't tear myself away from most unintentionally amusing show on television.
The X-Files: "Badlaa". Absolutely terrible. To quote Comic Book Store Guy from the Simpsons, this was the "worst episode ever." Ever. Possibly not. I can't really recall most of the eps, but this one must go down as one of the worst of all time. John Shiban, Mr Terrifying Kitty Cats himself (er, the ep about the jaguar spirit. no idea of title) wrote it. The only good bit about it was the bit at the end where they show you the trailer for next week's show, and Mulder was in it! Mulder Mulder Mulder Mulder! Yay! I'm slightly excited over that. It's been far too long. Doggett's a good guy and everything, and the previous plots weren't so bad, but... but... it's just not the same without Mulder.
Violin lesson 5:30. There's no lesson next week (easter holidays, Gareth's not there) and the week after is Anzac Day, so my next lesson's not till the 27th. Until then, I've got to learn scales. Damn it. Scales are boring. I've also got to play "the Bee", which I don't much like. Gareth didn't bring the Beatles book like he said so I don't get to do that.
the Simpsons: title "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace". Repeat of the one where Homer tries to become Thomas Edison, but I've seen it before.
found out on the random house website that conquest (rebirth? it's one of those, anyway) is maybe not coming out here until 7-6! How irritating. I may be able to order it off th einternet faster, but with the dollar hte way it is, it'll cost me a lot, plus shipping, so I think i'd better wait.
The Awful Truth: repeat of the episode where they investigate one room shacks on the grounds that they create crazy people. Also, a segment on something I can't remember, and the I See Lucy bit where Mike phones her after midnight.
The cheque came in the mail from the Board of Secondary School Studies today, for $33, and Mum said I could have it. So now I've got about $80-ish, and I shall go and buy a Beatles cd with it. I'll go and do a bit of looking around on the net to find out which ones I ought to look for. I've been listening incessantly to the tapes I made yesterday. Side four (on the record, it works out to the first side of my second tape anyway) has "Octopus's Garden" on it. I knew I was right about that. Explanation: Stack once asked who sang it, I said the Beatles and got laughed at. I conceeded that I may have been wrong, because "Octopus's Garden" always reminds me of "Yellow Submarine" and I wasn't entirely sure if I only connected the two because of half-assed ("oh, but I was using my whole ass..." - homer) childhood rememberance of songs Dad used to sing. But I was right, so there.
I got a phone call for that library job that I applied for on... er... *going to look it up*... 28th February. So longer than a month ago, and finally they phoned and I have an interview on Thursday morning. Yay yay yay. I really hope I get the job.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Stock Car Races". The titles of these episodes suck, but the show's good. The beginning of this one featured Dewey standing in front of Reese making noises as if he was being beaten up, finally making Reese start to throttle him, at which point Lois comes in and yells at Reese. Clever little setup.
wanted to keep listening to Beatles tape, so fabricated reason for using computer, which was to actually get around to doing what I've meant to do for ages- reverse the order of this diary. Now most recent is at the top. Good. Sentences are not working, I am sleepy (or, in Jordan language, "fweepy"). The walkman is really hot so I should possibly go to bed, and I think I will turn the computer off now.
Cleaned up my cupboard and computer desk. Set up Erica's record player on my desk and taped the Beatles record (1967-1970). The record machine makes a really scary noise when there's no speakers plugged in to drown out the noise of it (Erica's speakers are broken so i had headphones plugged in). It's the music, but in a really tinny scratchy sort of way. I never heard it before because the player's always had speakers in it and anyway I don't use it often. It really freaked me out, I kept expecting some really deep voice to suddenly start talking backwards at me. Well, that's what it reminded me of.
Watched the Truman Show on video. It was quite good, even though I can't stand Jim Carrey.
Watched Chopper on video. I didn't think it was all that great, but there were some good bits in it.
Pilfered "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" from Mum and Dad's CD's, since it's the only Beatles cd they own. I wanted to listen to some Beatles before next Wednesday, my lesson. It's a bitch, because the album's really good, and gods know I haven't got enough money to go and buy all of the Beatles stuff. Erica's got a record somewhere, I shall tape it I think.
the X-Files: title "Salvage". About the man who turned into metal. Lots less superman/man of steel jokes than i expected.
8:30 centrelink appointment. seminar on all the things about registering for unemployment. I want to see the free career counsellor and find out what the hell it is that i should be doing.
After the appointment i went to look at the bookstore in the marketplace, and i found another copy of the "Sandman book of Dreams" on the $5 for 3 table, so i got it for Erica and now she can stop bugging me to give her mine.
Fisished going through the X-F scripts up to season two now. have to start on season three.
Violin lesson 5:30. Was very tired and spaced out for some reason, so all the explanations about key signatures confused me a little bit. I have to learn them for next week. Then Gareth (I keep thinking of him as Gavin and I don't know why) said he would bring in a beatles song book that I could play. Good, i thought.
the Simpsons: title "HOMR". Doctors discover that Homer had a crayon lodged in his brain (flashback: poking crayons up nose - "fifteen... sixteen..." - he sneezes and they all fly out - "I think that's all of them.") and the doctors remove it, making Homer much smarter, but it alienates his friends and Moe sticks it back in for him, returning him to his former stupidity. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.
Watched the movie show on SBS and decided that David Stratton is a name-dropping prat sometimes. I actually decided that a while ago, but realised it again tonight. I still like watching the movie show because it does give an idea of whether the movie will be decent or not. I remember that "High Fidelity" got Margaret's first five stars for 2000 when it was released, which was actually fairly late in the year, so it was some achievment. I wonder how many stars they gave "Almost Famous". I think that was reviewed that night the SBS broadcast thingy was broken and all we got was a blank screen and occasionaly a broken up picture. Hmmm... i may go and look at their website.
About a thousand typos in the above section but I don't fel like fixing them, so i won't. "Though sometimes I stammer or mix up my grammar, you get what my meanings are" - "These Apples" by the Barenaked Ladies (Q: is it *the* barenaked ladies, or just bnl? I don't know.)
Went shopping looking for new star wars book, but i guess it's not out yet because i couldn't find it. I found a new bookstore on Charlotte Street and it is enormous but expensive unfortunately. There's a copy of the "Soul Music" screenplay, from the cartoon video, but it was $18 so I couldn't justify buying it. I think I will get Erica to buy it for me though, once mum gives me my money. I decided to see "Almost Famous" at the Myer Hoyts, started at 1:15 and I made it just in time to watch the previews. I hate missing them. There was a previwew for the remake of Planet of the Apes, which actually looks quite interesting before the apes show up. When the movie started, the opening song was the Chipmunk christmas song. I have that disney songs cd somewhere in the house, my sister and I used to listen to it. I cracked up when I heard it in the movie. It was a really good movie. some really good lines but i couldn't find any paper without making lots of noise digging through my bag, so i thought, I'll just buy the DVD when it comes out (we haven't a dvd player now, but we *are* going to get one...) I did like the soundtrack as well, maybe i will look for it in the stores, except i have no money so there goes that idea. The movie reminded me of "High Fidelity" mostly because it was so focused on music. I think more movies should be like them.
Awful Truth was the one where Manpower sends out the Michael Moore memo, and they go and test which offices have read it. The union skit has got to be on soon!
Very much Carrot-style punctuation today. I don't feel like typing properly.
library, got "lives of christopher chant" and "nanny ogg's cookbook" among others.
Missed centrelink appointment because I was a tiny bit late b/c of traffic. bleh.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Lois Vs. Evil". Lois is fired when Dewey steals from the store. "I only ate half." of a frog... Dewey.
mum came home, we got the paper really late.
downloaded snood off the net because jordan woke me at 7:00 and made me.
walked jordan to school and picked him up.
X-Files: title "Surekill". I'm writing this a week or so later and I can't for the life of me remember what this episode was about. I'll have to fill it in later. [ADDED LATER] Erica just informed me that it was the one about X-ray vision. the old twin thing gets trotted out again for another tired time. If Erica was a murderer or something I think I would have nothing to do with it. Yet there are about a squillion X-F episodes devoted to identical twins, separated at birth twins, cryogenically frozen twins and it just gets annoying, okay?
Mum went to gunnedah today.
Simpsons: title "Skinner's Sense of Snow". There's a snowstorm in Springfield and the children get stuck in the school.
Finished kivrim card weaving, and threaded a new one with that blue and white crochet cotton, 24 cards. I needed it wider really but I didn't have enough cards or cotton. Oh well.
Went to the library. For some reason a buch of the holds I put on have gone, so I have to put some of them on again.
read the paper. there was a really irritating article in it about christianity that bothered me a lot.
this perhaps was the night that the new simpsons episode appeared? The one where bart joins a boy band with subliminal messages: yvan eht nioj (join the navy).
I forget.
Finished reading "the Dark is Rising" sequence today. I thought that they were good. Praise all authors of children's fantasy, my bokshelf would be empty without them. But now that's just another bunch of books to add to my list to buy, which is getting longer and longer, considering I've got no job, therefore no money. Bleh bleh bleh.
Violin lesson 5:30. Normal sort of lesson. Walked to the train station afterwards, didn't buy a ticket (it's only two stops, and there's never anyone on the train, let alone inspectors). I got fined, $150. I'll never ever not buy a ticket again. Dad's paying it for me, but still I feel really terrible about it.
The Simpsons: "The Great Money Caper". Bart and Homer try to con people so that Homer can pay for car repairs, but they get caught.
The X-Files: "Via Negativa". Weird third eye thingy episode. Scully not in it much. The X-files is apparently moving to Thursday night. That's impossible! The X-files has always been 8:30 Wednesday night, since it started airing here. Why oh why does it have to move? Probably the ratings are dropping. It won't be the same on Thursdays, like it's not the same without that Hahn Ice beer ad before it (that ad was before the X-F for the best season, and they've become linked in my mind and Erica's too).
Got red wool for a new pattern of card weaving. Also went to library and got some books. Had job interview, which I think went not well. I went fine most of the way through and then stuffed up at the end when he asked 'what are you looking for in a job?' I couldn't say, money, and I sort of stammered out some crap about working hard and so on. Bleh.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Krelboyne Picnic". The picnic had some good bits, but I forget them.
The Awful Truth: repeat of one where they give a man of the year award to... name has escaped me. Ira something, I think. Then there was a story about Mike's restraining order. Hadn't seen it before, it was quite funny.
[added weeks later] For some reason I have nothing typed here. Assume nothing happened.
Went on internet and spent ages looking for card weaving patterns. Found some interesting patterns, one I will try when I can be bothered to cut and measure all of the wool (read: possibly never...). I also found something that tells how to make felt slippers, that have turned up pixie toes on them. They are cool. I have to get some fleece. I wonder could I make slippers from the felt I have already? Must think about that...
Lisa was here today, spent the night. It was surprisingly quiet anyway.
Watched Mystery Men. There were some amusing bits, but it wasn't great. It would've probably been a better comic book, i.e. before adaption to the screen. Same themes/ideas basically as Watchmen (Alan Moore) and Astro City (Kurt Busiek, I think?). There was a preview for Dragonheart 2 on the tape, which looked pathetic and had Francis from MITM in it. I snickered at that. I also finished my card weaving, but I'd screwed up the threading, so it wasn't a proper pattern. I shall go on the net and find better patterns I think.
Went down the street and looked at DVD's, cause Mum wants to buy a player. We lay-byed (not a word, but oh well) High Fidelity and Gladiator. Mum also lay-byed an ice-cream maker. I got blue, yelow and white wool to make a strap to carry my violin case with. I phoned BCC re: traineeship, but Vicky wasn't in, so I had to leave a message.
Violin lesson: I didn't practice all week so I made terrible mistakes. Plus I was tired. I got some new music, some really cool sounding Celtic sort of stuff. Brilliant. I went down to the train station, and I sat down to wait for my train. This guy came up to me and started saying "Do you remember me?" I hadn't the vaguest clue who he was, and he sat down and started telling me about how my sister and I once tied him to a tree with a skipping rope. And he told me he was Mark. That freaked me out. He used to be this really irritating fat kid who followed me around, and I hated him. But I would never have recognised him. He's taller now. I mean, obviously, because last time I saw him was in primary school, but he used to be so short for his age, and I was tall. Now I'm short. But bloody hell. I said I didn't remember him, because he may have asked what I remembered about him, and although I didn't remember the skipping rope episode, I do remember that I did not like him and I probably told him so. I was slightly suprprised that he knew who I was, even though I know I still look quite similar now to how I looked when I was small. I haven't changed all that much, really, just gotten taller. And my hair is shorter, which is a big regret of mine that I ever cut it and I want it to hurry up and grow back.
the Simpsons: title "the Computer Wore Menace Shoes". Homer has a website on which he publishes rumours under the name Mr. X. This was a very odd episode. Strange. "I am not a number! I am a man... Oh wait, I'm number 9. In your face, number 6!" paraphrased. I think those numbers are right.
the X-Files: "Redrum". Lawyer who goes backward in time. This was confusing, but only because Erica was confused and spent ages arguing with me over discontinuities (sp?) in the plot and so I also got confused. It wasn't much of either Scully or Doggett. I want to know when Mulder's coming back. I could go and look at an American episode guide or something, but that would spoil the surprise. So I'm stuck in suspense.
Went to the library, borrowed a heap of books.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Francis Escapes". I thought this one would be funny, but it wasn't really all that great. Except for the bit about the monster under Dewey's bed, and in the backyard. That was really good.
Meant to go to library but forgot to.
Played Monkey Island all day, ended up with a shocking headache and took lots of Panadol. I finished CMI but I had to use the hints I'd gone and gotten off the 'net. It was really funny. I'll have to go through it and write down all of the funny bits. There are an awful lot of them though.
Went into the city. Got "Lud-in-the-Mist" by Hope Mirrlees, in Pages which is closing down :( Then I went into Harvey Norman and discovered the Curse of Monkey Island, for only $25. So I got it even though it meant spending my violin lesson money. now I have to borrow some money from erica.
Big storm. Our senior certificates arrived, but no one checked the mail and they got ruined by the storm. Bloody typical.
Went into the city for my interview. Scored perfectly on the little aptitude test. I got a hardcover copy of "Vision of the Future" from pages, which is good because now I have the Hand of Thrawn both in hardcover. I also got "Antibodies" (an X-files book) by the dreaded KJA. It wasn't actually all that bad. I do know that his other two X-F books are better than the ones by Charles Grant.
Watched the X-files tape: title: "Invocation". A kid is kidnapped and killed, his ghost returns but everyone thinks he's a real child. Doggett's got some sort of complex about abducted children, apparently, which is probably his equivalent of Samantha. Doggett's pretty arrogant and cocky, but I think I'm getting used to him. Doesn't like admitting he's wrong. Plus, Scully doesn't let him get away with things that she let Mulder do. I know she doesn't know Doggett as well, but she doesn't have to act like she's up on the high ground ("You make such a good target up there.")
Violin: 5:30. Got a bunch of new pieces, including one that I have to pluck the strings instead of bowing them. That's hard for me to do.
Simpsons: title: "Homer Vs. Dignity". Homer becomes Mr. Burns' "Prank Monkey". I can't think of anything particularly funny that happened. [Added later] Oh, yes I can. Homer went into the Comic Book Store, asked for a mint condition Spiderman one, pays a breiefcase full of money for it, and eats it. The Comic Book Store guy ends up hiding his head on the floor. I am not a fan of spiderman, but... but... mint condition first edition! It irritated me even in a cartoon.
Too damn tired to stay awake for the X-files, so I taped it.
Reinstalled Internet Explorer in an attempt to stop this irritating DNS error thingy. Unfortunately now OE pops up with a little ad window when I click on the Hotmail thing. Makes sense, I suppose, but still a little bit annoying. Picture It works again, because I just decided to try it, but I don't know how long it has been working for. Phoned number in paper for Brisbane Commercial College (looking for school leaver traineeships) and I have to go in for an interview at 9:30 on Thursday.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Sleepover". I'm liking Francis more and more. Very funny, those bits in the military school. There was also a terribly funny bit where Dewey was trying to weigh his head. He put it on the bathroom scales, lifted it up, and read the thing, which had swung back to zero. He did it again: "Zero." It cracked me and Erica up. It was Jordan all over.
The Awful Truth: repeat of the episode where they harass Disney with Crackers the Corporate Crime Fighting Chicken ("Why did the chicken cross the road? To fight corporate crime!") with Jay Martel in the suit. There was also the voicebox choir visiting cigarette companies.
Looked after Jordan again because he was "sick".
Can't remember.
Can't remember.
Looked after Jordan for most of the day.
Didn't do anything.
Posted the resume today, desperately hoping that I would get the job. Please please please, if there's anyone out there, help me get it!
Violin lesson at 5:30. Got a new piece of music and have to start to play with my fingers instead of just open string.
The Simpsons: title "Lisa the Tree Hugger". The voice of protesting guy Jesse was Pacey from Dawson's Creek (I don't watch it... really.) I found that really funny. When the credits came up, Erica and I saw the name, thought for a moment about who it was, and both blurted out "It's Pacey!". Dawson's Creek has to be the funniest show on TV, because of the dictionary-swallowed manner of speaking that they use.
The X-Files: title "Roadrunners". This was the gross thing in Scully's spine episode. I admit Doggett's not as bad as I thought he would be, but the plots just get worse and worse.
Got some new black t-shirts (not quite at Neil Gaiman level yet, though.)
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Malcolm Babysits". The fish in the blender bit was really funny, I thought.
The Awful Truth: repeat of the episode where they get a bus full of gay people and visit the illegal states.
Went shopping in the city. Visited new premises of Comics Etc., discovered it's still not all that great but the best of the three comic stores I know of. Got a Tori Amos CD, "Boys For Pele". She is more Delirium than anyone else, I should say.
Nothing.
Nothing. Read an amusing thing in the paper, a comment from Bono of U2. He was talking about all of the people who thanked god when they won awards, and he was talking about how god would be going "no, don't thank me for that one. oh, that one's awful!"
Didn't do very much. The Simpsons was a repeat of the episode where Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin move to town. There was a really good quote from Homer: "If celebrities don't want people pawing through their garbage and thinking they're gay, they shouldn't have tried to express themselves creatively." Or something similar, that's slightly paraphrased.
John Clarke (from the Games) was on the 7:30 Report making fun of Johnny Howard. That was good.
Spent forty-five minutes practicing violin. Spent an hour and a half writing application for library job. It's worse than writing school essays, because you can't write "I'm a brilliant person", but that's what they want you basically to say. It's so hard to find a decent balance between sounding truthful, stuck-up and appropriate for the job. I hate writing applications.
Lesson at 5:30. Got four pieces of sheet music to learn: "Ann, Dan and Egbert" (a, d, and e strings. brilliant naming scheme...), "G-String George" (hmmm...), "The Worm", and "Lazy Day". All are open string only.
Simpsons: "Treehouse of Horror XI". The sketches were "G-G-Ghost D-D-Dad", "Scary Tales Can Come True", and "Night of the Dolphin".
The X-Files: "Patience". This was about that batman thing. Not very good at all. I want Mulder back! [Added later] I just got the title of this episode from the internet, and remembered the quote I forgot to write down. I'm pretty sure it's this ep. that it came from. Paraphrased- Doggett: "Are you familiar with Occam's Razor?" Scully: "Yes, Agent Mulder referred to it as Occam's Theory of Limited Imagination." It remeinded me of Dirk Gently and his "once you eliminate the improbable, the impossible is the answer". (i'm aware that's twisted Sherlcok Holmes)
Got the information package for the library job today. Must write the letter and all that now.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Shame". Malcolm beats up a seven-year old kid by mistake, and fells really guilty about it. Quote- Malcolm: "You're supposed to be my friend and you don't even care!" Stevie: "And yet... you keep... talking." I thought that was funny, anyway. I do like that show.
The Awful Truth: repeat episode, the one where Mike organises a witchhunt based on the Starr report (Monica Lewinsky...). The head inquisitioner was Jay Martel, but it was before I knew his name. I really do like that guy. We have to keep a tape ready, because Erica and I want to get the Union skit on tape. There's a group of people standing around talking about being anti-unionists, and they keep saying how anti-unionists are getting a raw deal, and how they should all band together and form a... union. It was incredibly amusing.
Saw an ad for the X-Files, and actually cringed at how terrible it looked. Bleh bleh bleh. It's just not the X-files without Mulder.
Nothing. There was a rather amusing interview with Little Johnny Howard on the 7:30 report. Kerry O'Brien went for the throat, alright.
Haven't done much today, but I felt like typing something. The computer has done some weird things today. Must upload this in case there's another problem with the bastard of a machine. First the memory test froze when I flicked it on, so I just turned it off and back on again and it started fine. Then I played Age of Empires, and it first closed down on me in the middle of a game (which I hadn't saved - grrr) and then after I'd restarted AOE and played for a while longer the computer just restarted itself for no apparent reason. It hasn't played up since then, but I'm kind of worried over it. I haven't got the money to pay for it to be fixed right now. Plus it's already had its fair share of problems.
State election. Only watched the coverage until about 9:30-ish, but at that time, Labor had about 60 seats, and Liberal 1. One Nation beat Liberal. How terrible. I was astonished.
Phoned up about the Junior Library ad in the Logan and Albert News. Had to talk to an answering machine, which I hate doing.
Went to Target at Springwood, and I got a charcoal turtleneck jumper for $10. Also I got some of those stocking footlet thingys. I don't know if they're any good, but I shall see if they are wearable in my new shoes.
Watched the tape of "The Awful Truth". It was about Bill Clinton ("Ben Gets Bill a Job") and also a segment on abortion. The final episode, probably there are no more. Good, because the last few eps weren't as good as the earlier ones.
Worked on creating the code for this diary and wrote some more of the rest of the page, previously barely existant. I will endeavour to complete the page over the next few days. Maybe weeks.
Violin lesson 5:30. Learned how to hold the bow. Can make slightly squeaky noises with it. Yay. Apparently next week I'll have to play some actual music. Bugger that. I haven't read music in five years and wasn't very good at it in the first place. I had better try to brush up on it.
Simpsons: "A Tale of Two Springfields". The chalkboard said "I will not write subliminal messagores." I found that very funny. Springfield splits into two over new area code, and they build a Berlin Wall to divide New and Old Springfield.
Simpsons: "Insane Clown Poppy". (There were two episodes tonight). Krusty's daughter Sophie shows up, he loses her violin to Fat Tony in a card game, and then breaks in with Homer to steal it back.
The X-Files: "Within" and "Without" (double episode for the season premiere). They changed the credits! How bloody irritating. They actually took new pictures for Mulder and Scully, and they stuck in the new agent, John Doggett. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. Technically, I suppose that they should have updated the pictures however often the FBI takes new pictures. Five years, like a driver's license, maybe. Anyway, the new guy's a prick, and the plot/script was so cliched and annoying I could have screamed. Whatever happened to the good X-Files? Even last season wasn't so bad, but it had Mulder for a saving grace. Bleh. And just who is the father of Scully's baby, and why is she suddenly best friends with Skinner? She told him she was pregnant before she told her mother - in fact her mother still doesn't know. I wonder where the unmarried thing sits with Scully's broken tap (on and off) Catholicism? Uh, and I also have absolutely no clue who Gibson Pierce is. He sounds like a guitarist in a rock band. The name I mean, not the kid himself. Yes, I just went and looked it up in my list of episodes. I saw the first part, but not the second. I skipped that whole season, so I never saw Agent Spender (apparently Mulder's half-brother or something? or did they clear up that whole "Cigarette Smoking Man is Mulder's father" mess when I wasn't watching?) Hmmm. Anyway, I hate hate hate the bounty hunter guy. Those episodes always involved great big conspiracies. I hate those episodes of the X-Files. And I am not looking forward to the rest of the season.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Red Dress". Not as good as the other one, but there were some good spots. Can't remember right now, though. Decided during this episode that the youngest boy (Dewey) reminds me of Jordan. They're both really dopey. When Reese and Dewey were asking Malcolm about being smart, Reese asked Malcolm if he could tell what he (Reese) was thinking. Malcolm replied that he wasn't psychic. Dewey than said, "Can you talk to dogs?" There was a pause, and then Dewey said, "I can." It reminded me so much of Jordan's "Ghost man", which he invented when he was bored in the car one day. He did up the seatbelt and pretended there was someone sitting there. I said I couldn't see anyone there and he said "I can", in the same tone that Dewey did. TMBG "Nice is Good" (don't know if that's the real title), used as aural torture to make the kids confess. Sounded like Barney.
Malcolm in the Middle: title "Home Alone 4". Francis babysits the other three for the weekend. I like Francis. Reminds me of someone, but I can't for the life of me figure out who it is. TMBG "Till My Head Falls Off", while they cleaned/messed up the house. The episode synopsis on the official site is rather amusing. Provides some invaluable advice, such as "You can't trust anyone whose best friend is named "Circus."" (http://www.fox.com/malcolminthemiddle/episodes/episode107.html).
Taped The Awful Truth, will probably get around to watching it on Thursday.
Went to the Hyperdome to look for crumpet rings. Described them as oversized eggrings to every kitchen-like store in the place, but found none. That's annoying. Also got the foam for my violin shoulder rest, but when I got home we found a bunch of other foam, so we didn't have to buy any. Oh well. Spent ages hacking away at the foam trying to make it the proper shape. Still don't know if I've gotten it right.
Malcolm in the Middle: first episode, title "Season Premiere" (wow, highly original!) Brilliant show, I thought. "Being smart is like being radioactive" and the aerial shot where Malcolm leaned to one side and the circle of kids moved with him, that was great. Also the bit where Lois was talking to Malcolm saying, it's good to be cut from the herd because it means that you'll be the only buffalo not there when the Indians drive the rest of them off a cliff. That's a good way of looking at it. TMBG "Pencil Rain" was in the episode (when the bully ?name? accidently hit Stevie and he tipped his wheelchair over - brilliant), which was weird.
Read the paper.
Hmmm. Can't remember.
This was the day that Mum had hurt her foot (really she hurt at work the night before. She cut her hand, got so pissed off that she kicked a block of wood, and bruised her bone). Jordan bludged the day off school, which was silly (I could have walked him up). Mum had to drive with her hurt foot, because I still don't have (or want) my license.
Can't remember what I did (started this diary a week later, that's why. My short term memory can be like one of those things you drain rice in.)
Started violin lessons at Beenleigh Music Cavern, 5:30-6:00. Learned three scales (G, D and A major).
